Botulinum Toxin Type A (“Botox”) Injections

Commonly known as ‘botox’ (there are other approved brands available) or anti-wrinkle injections. It is the most commonly requested aesthetic treatment. It is a prescription only medicine that is injected in tiny amounts just under the skin into facial muscles using a very tiny needle. Once in the muscle, the medicine blocks the nerve impulse that is responsible for making the muscle contract. This keeps the muscle in a relaxed state and also the wrinkles that occur when the muscle contracts. The result is a huge reduction of the wrinkles in this area, and the face looks more refreshed, less tired and youthful.

What are the side effects ?

Botulinum toxin has been used for medical and cosmetic purposes for many years. Like all medicines, ‘botox’ can cause side effects but these are generally minimal and temporary such as headaches, swelling, irritation and redness. How long does it last?

Which areas can be treated?

Frown Lines (glabellar lines)
